Senator Lindsey Graham Says This About “Any Effort To Move Forward” On SCOTUS Vacancy

(Liberty Bell) – After the news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death broke last night, both sides of the aisle have been quick to declare their positions on whether or not President Trump should move to fill the vacancy or not. Naturally, Democrats and Senate RINOs have voiced that they are against Trump filling the seat citing Obama not filling a seat on his way out in 2016. They, of course, forget to mention that Obama was at that time a lame duck president and the Republicans controlled the Senate.

This time, President Trump is up for re-election and it is his party in control of the Senate. Precedent means nothing to leftists, however, and thus we can expect nothing but resistance going forward.

Despite the fact that RINO Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) has said she won’t vote on a nominee before inauguration because “fair is fair,” others have come out in strong support of President Trump filling the seat, as precedent has proven he should.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is among the supporters of Trump filling the seat. He said he is supporting President Trump “in any effort to move forward” with filling the seat and as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he would preside over the confirmation hearings for the president’s choice.

Breitbart has more:

Graham, who posted his comments to Twitter on Saturday afternoon, said that his decision to back President Trump was driven by two factors — former Sen. Harry Reid’s (D-NV) judicial confirmation rule changes and the Democrats’ ultimately unsuccessful attempt to derail Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanugh’s nomination to the high court.

“The two biggest changes regarding the Senate and judicial confirmations that have occurred in the last decade have come from Democrats,” Graham wrote. “In light of these two events, I will support President @realDonaldTrump in any effort to move forward regarding the recent vacancy created by the passing of Justice Ginsburg.”

Graham’s statement appears to put to rest Republican fears that he might favor leaving Ginsburg’s seat vacant until after the November election.

Following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in 2016, the South Carolina senator said, “Let’s let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination.”

He repeated the sentiment in a 2018 interview with The Atlantic magazine. “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait till the next election.”

But the Kavanaugh hearings clearly served as a game changer. Earlier this year, the senator reportedly said: “After [Brett] Kavanaugh, the rules have changed as far as I’m concerned.”

In a separate tweet on Saturday, Graham directed reporters to his recent statements concerning possible Supreme Court vacancies. In one interview, he said the Senate would work to confirm a Supreme Court nominee this year if a vacancy arose because circumstances differ from 2016, when Republicans blocked then-President Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland.

During the battle over Garland, the White House and the Senate were held by different political parties. Now, Republicans hold both the White House and the Senate.

“If you look into the history of the country, there had not been an occasion where somebody was confirmed in a presidential election year after primary started when you had divided government,” Graham said in an interview on Full Court Press with Greta Van Susteren.

Sen. Graham is right, precedence is on the President’s side. Now, if only all those in his own party would support him.

  1. Let’s not forget the John McCain was deeply responsible for handling over the Steele dossier to the FBI – How soon we forget? That was the beginning of all the money spent on using this fake information to Impeach Trump!

  2. I think it is time to blow apart the democrat apart. They are a communist party in the pocket of Communist China. The leadership should be tried for treason against the constitution they took an oath to defend. Everyone of them lied to the American people when they ran and took their oath. I would think the members of the democrat party would get tired of being mislead .

  3. Lindsey Graham is a disappointment. The time has come for him to go home. It is hideous to even be having this discussion before the burial of Justice Ginsburg. Is this the same man who served with John McCain?

    • Frankie, Ruth is rom temp. It needs to taken care of, and the constitution is on Trumps side. Oh, and John was a big piece of shit. You should recognize shit. Your brains are made from it!

    • Giving credit where due, Ruth held on as long as she possibly could even though she should have retired from the bench several years ago. She tried to hold out until another democrat took office but just couldn’t do it.
That said, to run government and Supreme Court there isn’t a 90 day mourning period. With current state of country and potential for volatile issues going to Supreme Court over next 3 – 4 month’s. That seat is critical and needs to be filled to avoid potential crisis of a split court decision. One being contested election which left has been prepping to contest for last 2 months. There is no reason to suspect any sitting President will refuse to leave office or plant that conspiracy theory in public mind unless planning something. All the potential issues with mail in voting changing process literally just a month prior to election starting when they had so many issues with ballets in Dem primary? Extending time for mail in votes to be accepted and counted? Seeds to contest this election have been firmly planted along with threats of violence even if they loose legitimately.
So yes we need the full Supreme Court seated and ready for work before end of 2020.

    • It is pretty obvious that the Senate Judicial Committee Democrats are responsible for the current state of affairs due to their shameful actions during the confirmation hearings of Kavanaugh. The were determined to destroy this man with no evidence to back up their claims. They have reaped what they have sown. Let the confirmation hearings begin.
