(Liberty Bell) – One of the things we hear constantly from the Democratic Party is how much they care about the “little guy,” the working man, the average Joe who has all the odds stacked against him as he’s oppressed by the big, bad rich folk. Yet, when it comes time for the rubber to meet the road, it turns out the only thing the Democrats care about is capitalizing on a crisis in order to get some of their agenda items pushed through the legislative branch.
The proof of this comes in the form of Democrats in the Senate voting to block the coronavirus package on Sunday which would’ve provided economic relief for businesses and Americans who are suffering due to quarantine and self-isolation measures taken to slow the spread of COVID-19.
These people are truly deplorable.
Here’s more on this from Breitbart:
The Senate GOP package failed, with 47 votes in favor and 47 against, which fell 13 votes short of what was necessary to advance the legislation.
An angry Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) slammed Democrats for voting against the bill and blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for nixing bipartisan negotiations over a coronavirus package.
“I want everybody to fully understand if we aren’t able to act tomorrow, it will be because of our colleagues on the other side continuing to dicker when the country expects us to come together and address the problem,” the Senate leader said on Sunday.
McConnell added that there was bipartisan consensus among “regular members of the Senate, not in the Leadership office, not in the speaker’s office for goodness sakes.”
McConnell continued on saying, “She’s the Speaker of the House, not the Speaker of the Senate. We were doing just fine unil that intervention.”
It’s going to be interesting to see what sort of spin Pelosi put on her intrusion into the Senate, which truly isn’t her place. She just sabotaged a relief effort that would’ve helped people, simply because she wasn’t given every piece of pork in the bill she wanted. It’s ridiculous.
She’s playing politics with people’s lives. Can you imagine the outrage had a Republican done something like this? Democratic leadership needs to hold her accountable for this intrusion. They won’t, of course, because Pelosi is Democratic leadership, but that’s beside the point.
In contrast, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) blamed Republicans for advancing legislation without an agreement.
Schumer said on the Senate floor:
The majority leader was well aware of how the vote would go before it happened but he chose to go forward with it anyway even though negotiations are continuing. So who’s playing games? But our caucus is united to deliver a bill that addresses this health and economic crisis quickly and we’re committed to working in a bipartisan way to get it done.
No, Sen. Schumer, you’re wrong. A true, genuine concern for the health and well-being of the American people would mean the Democratic Party wouldn’t be trying to push intrusive, big government ideas through into law during a time of national crisis. But that’s precisely what they are doing. Capitalizing on a pandemic in order to usurp more power and authority for themselves, while burdening folks who are already anxious and in need of relief.
Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) said in a statement on Sunday:
How pathetic. Tonight’s vote was not even on passing a bipartisan plan, it was merely to begin debating it. The American people are hurting, the clock is ticking, but Senate Democrats would rather cave to Speaker Pelosi’s eleventh-hour demands. My colleagues on the other side of the aisle should worry more about getting relief to their constituents and less about the House Speaker’s partisan wish list. This cannot go another day.
Cramer is right on the money. Right now, all that should matter is getting relief to those who need it. They need help now. Instead, Pelosi is essentially holding them all hostage in order to get certain things she wants to pass pushed through with this spending bill. It’s egregious.
