(Liberty Bell) – CNN ran with the wild tale of a nurse from South Dakota who has said that patients at the hospital she works at are largely in denial that they actually have COVID-19 even as they die from it.
The entire story started on Twitter where nurse Jodi Doering from Woonsocket, South Dakota shared her “experience” with dying COVID patients who simply refused to believe they were actually dying from COVID.
Without even bothering to do a little digging into what was actually going on in South Dakota, CNN gave Doering a national platform and with an awkward smile and occasional laugh, she told her tale to CNN’s “New Day” co-host Alisyn Camerota.
Other reporters became skeptical and actually decided to do the job of a journalist and dug into Doering’s story. What they found out, of course, was that the nurse’s story was a “massive exaggeration” if not possibly worse.
CNN has, of course, been silent since the revelation that Doering is a fraud and that’s probably because one of their clips of the interview went viral garnering over 5.8 million views. The story is just too compelling and fits CNN’s COVID narrative too perfectly to issue any kind of statement of correction.
NewsBusters discovered that CNN spent 23 minutes and 38 seconds on Doering’s dramatic tale over a two-day period spanning several different CNN programs. All of this with zero journalistic leg-work to verify her claims.
“Of course, CNN has yet to air an acknowledgment or correction because, when there’s a narrative to push, CNN subscribes to the mantra of if it rings true, it is true,” NewsBusters managing editor Curtis Houck wrote.
In the interview, Doering claimed that multiple dying patients were in outright denial that they had COVID. She said these patient’s dying words were “This can’t be happening, it’s not real.” She went on to say that they were filled with “anger and hatred” when they should have been spending time FaceTiming their families.
Doering claimed that these encounters made her “really sad” despite the fact that she awkwardly grinned through most of the interview.
A South Dakota ER nurse @JodiDoering says her Covid-19 patients often “don’t want to believe that Covid is real.”

Steve Krakauer, a former CNN digital producer and now Fourth Watch editor, wrote that Doering is “generally gross” for exploiting dying patients and broadcasting their supposed last words on national TV.
He also said that CNN was no better for giving her the platform to do it on and questioned whether or not the story that has received national attention by CNN, multiple left-wing publications, and US Senators, was even real at all.
Journalist David Zweig wrote a column last week in which he declared that “reporters didn’t do their job” after they caught wind of Doering’s fantastical story of sweeping “deranged denialism.”
Zweig, who has written for some of the most left-wing publications in the country, contacted other hospitals in the same area of South Dakota and reported that nobody else seemed to have the same experience as Doering.
The National Review also dove into Doering’s claims and, like Zweig, weren’t able to find a single other nurse in the area who had witnessed anything similar. Imagine that.
During her interview, Doering claimed that patients were in so much denial that they would insist they had other illnesses like pneumonia or even lung cancer but Doering claimed that she would tell them “if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a duck.”
Well, the same can be said of Doering and her made-up fantasy in which dying COVID patients have been rabidly denying that COVID is real even as they take their final breaths. Her story walks like a made-up tale, talks like a made-up tale and, after real reporters did their jobs, we now know it is a made-up tale.
Doering was looking to get her 15 minutes and CNN was more than happy to give it to her. Shame on them both.
